Glenborin Farm Produce

About Our Farm

Glenborin Farm Produce is a free-range egg-producing farm outside of Donegal Town. Located among the rolling foothills of the Blue Stack Mountains, the farm is a family-owned & run farm. Initially, Mark & Majella McHugh set their farm up in 2009 producing duck eggs. But due to a fluctuating market, Mark & Majella decided to move into free-range egg production, setting up their first henhouse in 2012.

Since setting up their farm in 2009 the farm has grown greatly with regular expansion. All eggs are produced & packed within the Donegal farm. Today, the farm supplies free-range eggs nationwide, reaching any area in Ireland.

Our Hens

We provide our laying free-range hens with a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The rich diet allows us to support the biosecurity process of the whole flock while enhancing the nutritional status of the eggs for the Irish population.

We also provide our free-range hens with access to our wide-open free-range runs. This gives the hens full access to many natural types of vegetation and the lush green grass along with the fresh mountain air. We aim to give our hens the most natural environment as possible. We also provide shelters throughout the various ranges to protect our hens from any over head predators and protection from the elements.

The farm is fully regulated and approved by the department of agriculture and is fully compliant. The farm has a strict bio-security program in place. This allows us to protect our flocks of hens and avoid any disease getting onto the farm.

All our sheds are of a flat deck system. This system is considered a high welfare system for hens as they have easy access to their cosy little nest boxes to lay their eggs whilst having free access to water & feed. The perches are also not overly high either. This is a big help in avoiding any stress on older hens reaching their perching space to rest.

Egg Traceability

All our eggs are stamped with our farm’s unique code. So wherever our eggs are bought, they can be fully traced back to the farm, and to the specific shed the egg was laid in from this unique code.

Environmental

Our goal is to plant 1,000 trees & hedges throughout our farm every year. We have put a bio-diversity plan together to achieve this to ensure we meet our yearly target. This plan will also work hand in hand by giving our free-range hens shelter from the elements and cover from overhead predators. All these trees and hedges will be indigenous species to Ireland. When fully mature, many of the trees will help cut down our carbon footprint. We also plan to use all biodegradable egg packs & boxes and recyclable packaging within the near future.
